You are welcome to email me (click here to do so), but you may find the answer to a commonly-asked question below.
You suck!/You rule!
I imagine both are probably true at times. Either way, thanks for reading my stuff.
How do I get into music journalism?
Contact as many magazine editors as possible, as politely as possible, as often as possible, with as many ideas as possible, all of which must be as good as they can possibly be.
How do I get my book published?
Write a short proposal and send it to publishers who you think would be suitable for your idea. If they all say no, refine your ideas and try again. Then do the same with literary agents. If you're any good, it'll work out in the end.
Can you take a look at my book idea and let me know if it's any good?
If you can explain it to me in 100 words or fewer, yes.
When is Glenn Hughes's autobiography going to be published?
The first, luxury edition is out in May 2011. See http://foruli.co.uk for updates.
What are you working on at the moment?
As of May 2011, the autobiographies of three well-known heavy metal dudes that you've heard of. I'm also in the middle of doing print, online and radio interviews for three other books: Glenn Hughes's autobiography, a Randy Rhoads biography and a Motorhead biography -- see Books page for info.
What do you think of the last Metallica album, Death Magnetic?
Average rather than great, but definitely a step in the right direction.
Will you ever write a book about Pantera?
Yes, one day. I've interviewed all those guys over the years and there's a huge story there. I liked Dimebag, he was a very cool guy.
Will you ever write a book about [name of band?]
If I like them enough, and if someone asks me to do it, quite possibly.
Shouldn't you have included [name of guitarist] in your 2009 book The 100 Greatest Metal Guitarists?
No. He isn't in there because I didn't think he was either technically gifted enough or particularly influential. That said, I wrote that book in 2008 –- things might have changed since then.
Are your Metallica and Slayer books going to be revised and updated?
Both of them have been recently republished in English with extra chapters covering 2009.
I can't get your books in [name of country].
Amazon and eBay will deliver to your country, even if your local bookstore doesn't stock my stuff.
What music are you listening to at the moment?
Old and new thrash, black and death metal, plus Opeth, Tool, Mastodon, Miles Davis, Prince and Bach. |
